It makes perfect sense to me...the characters in the Tempest are symbols of England and its control/influence over the rest of Europe at the time William Shakespeare wrote the play.

I'm sorry you don't get it...if you get some Cliff notes it might help...there are so many interpretations of Shakespeare's works that you should be able to find something written on the web that you can understand a little more clearly...

It's not you; this article is written as though the reader is intimately familiar with all the terms of literature that are discussed...seems like it may have been written by someone who considered himself an expert.
