I need a great paying job to help pay for college. I also need to start putting money away for after college(I'm going into a pretty hit-or-miss career, and need to be sure I can take care of myself until my income is steady). I know that not many restaurants probably pay hostesses a lot of money, and ever fewer share tips, but I was just wondering which ones do. I don't care if they're small name of chain restaurants, I just need to know.

  1. Fine dining restaurants usually start their hosts at about $10 an hour. Chain places such as Chili's don't. I recommend avoiding places like that, like the plague.

In the numerous years I've worked in restaurants, I've worked in only 2 places that include hosts in the tip pool. One was Friday's. The other was fine dining & it was called "Osteria" and it's located in Philadelphia. Other than that, I've only split coat check tips with other hosts that I've worked with.

I would recommend serving or bartending. They make much, MUCH more money than hosts. Or if you host, volunteer to organize special events. And ask for commission off said events.

  2. seriously, all jokes aside, Hooters will take care of you, they take care of all their girls. A good second if you don't like revealing too much is Chilis. I hear they make a lot of money, plus they are all college kids.
