Question:

What rides at Universal or Islands of Adventure are more gentle?

I'm in college in Florida and my dad is flying in this week to help me move. We're trying to come up with something fun to do one day that he's here and we might go to Universal and Islands of Adventure for the day.

He has told me, though, that rides that "twist and turn" or spin around too fast make him very sick, and I know they're big parks so there HAS to be some rides that are still fun but aren't so extreme. I know any of the roller coasters would be out of the question.

What rides would you recommend that might be a little gentler on the stomach? And if you could describe the rides that would also be helpful. I'm sure some sudden movements or turns or what not would be just fine, just nothing extreme like a rollercoaster.

Thanks so much!

  1. Universal Studios would be the better bet, you are right.  Here's rides you could do:

Jimmy Neutron's Nicktoon Blast is a simulator-style ride, but it has stationary seats available

    Shrek 4-D

Twister-Ride it Out! (you just stand and watch)

Disaster! A Major Motion Picture Starring You! (unless he really cannot stand motion AT ALL, he should be able to do this)

    Jaws

Men in Black - can do some sudden turns and twists, so probably not

The Simpsons - I have not ridden it yet, so I am not sure

    ET

and there are several shows you could attend

FYI to the other person who responded, Back to the Future has been closed for some time now.  It was replaced by the Simpsons.

  2. Universal Studios is a great park, and has a number of shows that you could go to with him that don't move

    1. Fear Factor Live

    2. Animal Planet Live

    3. Shrek 4-D

    4. Terminator 2 3-D

    5. Horror Make-up show (really funny)

    6. Beattle Juice grave yard review (concert)

Then there are some rides with limited movement

    1. Twister - Ride it out

    2. Disaster

    3. JAWS

Then there are some rides that might cause disorientation or motion sickness

    1. The Mummy - (a roller coaster style ride)

    2. Men In Black - slow moving ride that does have a few sharp turns and spins

    3. The Simpsons ride - a GREAT motion simulator

    4. Jimmy Nutron - a bad motion simulator

    5. Woody Woodpecker's Coaster - a short family coaster

    I hope this helps!

  3. Universal (the original) is more based on movies, shows, etc. It has decently fair rides like Back to the Future, ET, Men in Black, and so on.  My favorite there being Back to the Future.  Check out Universal's website and search for their rides.

Islands of Adventures is purely a thrill spot. I enjoyed the Hulk, dueling dragons, etc (Mostly coasters) but some enjoyable rides.. try and get a few days as a pass, it'll be cheaper and you can check out BOTH parks that way!

    enjoy!
