  1. What?

First of all, I wonder about the extent of your knowledge concerning firearms. There is a huge difference between a .22 Mag (a rimfire) and a .22-250 (centerfire) cartridge. A couple of thousand feet per second, depending on the load. A .22 Mag is a little popgun compared to a .22-250. 100 yards would be stretching it with the magnum, where I've put five rounds of handloads in a group, 1/8" center to center, with a Ruger M77 Varmint rifle on bags. Educate yourself a bit more before making any purchases.

  2. Check out the Ruger 10/22, a very popular and fun rifle.  It's on sale from 7/31 - 8/10 at Cabela's for $179.99.  I have it and it's very reliable.

Or BassPro has on sale the Reminton 597 for $119.99 after mail-in rebate.  Check out thier flyer Hunting Classic sale 8/8 - 8/24.

  3. The Ruger 10/22 is nice but its not in the same league as the 22-250.... They are light years in difference. The .22 is good for rabbits at 75 yards and the 22-250 is great for coyote or woodchucks at 300 yards....

What I suggest is a rifle chambered in .223. The .223 cartridge is commonly used for target competition, varmint hunting and police duty in tactical rifles.... It is also a lot less expensive purchased in bulk....

Consider a Savage Arms package series rifle. The scope is included. Its about $550 and sometimes less at the gun counter.....

    .223 Ammunition in bulk.....

  4. i am not fimilar with the 10/22 22 magnum but i know the 22-250 pretty well. The 22-250 is excellet coyote gun and will blow away any other varmint you need. It is excellent long range gun and will do the job in medium and short range too. I strongly suggest the 22-250

  5. The answer may be simpler than you think

They don't make the 10/22 mag any more

It was discontinued because of reliability problems caused by bolts breaking

Unless you just forgot a comma then I'd go for the 10/22

Costs less to buy and feed

Unless of course you are planning on hunting coons with it

Then I'd say get the .22 mag still cheaper to buy and feed than the centerfire and you can still take coyote with it if your practice

Which brings us back to the price of ammo

  6. 22 LR is best thought of as a 50-yard caliber, despite the stories of long shots. 22 Magnum will get you out a bit farther, but it's still a tiny bullet. 22-250 is a big leap to stay in 22 cal. It's easily effective at 250 yards or more, and can shoot heavier bullets. Now think about what you're going to do with the new toy and you can make the right choice.

  7. Get the one that might be banned next year so the 10/22.

  8. G'Day mate i would go the .223 before the 22.250 cheers mate

  9. It all depends on the purpose for a rifle.  If all you want to do is plink at cans, shoot squirrels or other small creatures, then the 10/22 is the way to go.  It shoots .22LR and is really cheap to shoot. Your effective range is going to be around 50 to75 yards maximum.  Yes, I've killed squirrels at longer ranges, but mostly just luck.

Witht the 22 magnum you will be extending your shooting range a bit, and the kill power.   Say you wanted to shoot some prarie dogs, you might be OK out to about 100 yards or maybe 125.  When you go to the 22 magnum, your cost per shot increases.

The 22/250 is a great gun.  You can shoot all types of varmits at ranges to 300+ yards.  (depending on how the wind blows).  You can also shoot deer  at closer range with the right load.  You certanly have more options and extended shooting range with this gun.  Down side is the cost per round.  With this you do have the option of reloading since it is a centerfire cartridge.  To get a good quality 22/250 with scope you will spend beyond the $500.

Another options you might consider is the .17 HMR which is a rimfire cartridge that I've heard some positive things about.  Less expensive to shoot than the 22/250, but gives much better range than the 22 magnum.

  10. the 22-250 but it sounds like you need to do a little more research on your gun options and access what type of game you will use the gun for and at what range. U doing your own homework should answer this question

  11. What are you going to use it for?

  12. 10/22 for sure. i own one myself i love it. it is a great rifle, very accurate in the right hands. go to the right place and shop around you can find one for $270. i got mine on discount for good charm so i got one that was easily worth $400 but dropped for me to $280. (no relation to the owner who sold it to me) so ya out of expierence get the 10/22. best rifle you can get.
