Women's design! A road bicycle of a well known and respected brand such as Cannondale, Lemond, Scott, Trek, etc. Takes a lot of mileage, not heavy, and under $900. I have seen road bikes under these brands so I know they're out there, just I don't know which one would be best. For almost daily 20 mile commutes. THANKS and God bless!

  1. Forget Womens design bikes (WSD) they are a rip off!

A suitable size mens bike would make more sense and often cheaper too!

Forget brand names, most frames are made in the far east anyway, don't let people tell you otherwise!

Richard K says "Sora is cheap and Lousy" - Forget that too!

Sora is an entry level groupset that is hardy and reliable, don't be put off by people who have a higher groupset/equipment, that slates  the lower ones!

Infact, for commuting Sora will suit you better than the higher level kits.(unless you are constantly upshifting on the drops).

A local bike shop (LBS) will sway you towards the brands they have dealerships with, - so go to a couple of shops and try the bikes for size, it's THE only way!

Brutally honest advice but the choice is yours!

    Best of Luck.

  2. Cannondale Synapse Feminine Alloy 7 bike costs around $800 at most bike shops.  This is the entry level bike for you.  The only problem with this bike that cant be avoided at this price range are the shifters/deraillers.  You get the Shimano Sora components.  They are cheap and LOUSY.  You might want to spend $300 extra and get the Cannondale Six13 Feminine 6.  You get shimano Tiagra components which are slightly better than Sora components.  They shift somewhat smoothly but not as fast as Shimano 105s or Shimano Ultegras.  And they dont quite shift as smoothly as Shimano 105s or Shimano Ultegras.  Tiagras are considered the true entry level components for road cycling while Soras are basically made to rip off the beginning road cyclists that are jumping into a sport they really cant afford.

Cannondale SIx 13 Feminine 6 which costs around $1,100 would be my suggestion.  My first bike cost around $1,100 but I got 105s with my 2003 Allez.  I have experience with Tiagras because I was test riding a lot of bicycles with Tiagras before I decided to spend a few extra dollars for a bike that has 105s.

  3. Visit the bike shops that carry these brands they all have a bike in your price range.
