  1. Pretty much any sort of rocks, as mountains are generally cause by the uplift and folding of existing rocks from a low-lying position to their present position. So the Alps are the result of a zone crumples and uplifted by collision between Africa and Europe, The Tibetan Plateau ( Himalayas etc) by collision between India and Asia. Where those uplifts occured a very long time ago then a lot of the softer rocks will have eroded away, just leaving stumps of more resistant rocks (Granites, Quartzites for example).

Volcanoes, of course tend to be piles of volcanic rocks - basalts for example.

I am not sure if you are confusing "Graphite" which is a relatively uncommon mineral, a fairly pure form of carbon (Famously mined near Keswick, in the Lake District) and Granite - a plutonic, igneous rock.

Should be some good basic geology stuff on the BBC "Earth Story" website or similar

  2. Granite

  3. a whole lot

  4. Big rocks

  5. Its one great big rock innit?

  6. depends on what type of tectonics formed them

    andesitic volcanoes?

    basaltic?

    Rhylotic?

    more information is needed.

  7. Mountains can be formed from an type of rock, mainly igneous and metamorphic as they are harder and resist weathering

...e.g. granite, dolerite, gabbro ( makes up the cairn gorms)

    .......slate, hornfels, metaquartsite

But sedimentatry rocks can make up mountains like sandstone, limestone, bands of shale, sandstone and coal.

Graphite is formed after coal and is undergone the most pressure and heat...though not too much as the carbon can be destroyed. So if there is coal in them there hills graphite could also be found.
