What rodent or small animal makes a clicking noise?

Question

There is something in my house and I have heard it but have not seen it. We had mice, but I think that problem is under control. But there is something else that clicks but I find no trail. I live in an older house with lots of nooks and crannies. I could be anywhere. It seems to move about freely. I was told maybe a ferret. But the pet store showed me the mess it leaves behind and I have not seen such.

Rats if they are stressed out.  Rats eat mice so when people have a mouse problem is sometimes attracts rats.

But, I'm guessing crickets.

Believe it or not, it could be a frog.  I was just on this web site:

...it has a scroll down list of different frogs and then you can play the sounds of the calls.  Sounds silly, but you'll be surprised how many frogs actually have a clicking sound.  Bird sounds and pig sounds, too.

Hope this helps a little.  I would like to think if it were anything bigger (or furrier) it would have shown itself, trying to escape.  Who knows, though.

It could probably be a click beetle. They are  pretty neat animals to observe, because while they click, they pop up in the air. They are pretty common animals. They are pretty harmless, and you should either keep it as a pet or let it go free. Only their larvae are pests to certain crops. The adults only feed on flower nectar, and aren't considered pests.
