  4. A massive one!  Understand that The Greek religion is based on anthropomorphic polytheism, it comprises multiple divinities having human forms and feelings.  Early Greek religion is a blend of the Achaean, Dorian, Minoan, Egyptian and the Asian cultures. It dates back to the period of the Aryan invasion during 2d millennium B.C. The Aryans mingled with the Aegean (Pelasgians) and the Minoan cultures to create the present day Greek culture. The civilization that resulted from the amalgamation flourished between 1600 B.C. and 1400 B.C. and was known as the Minoan-Mycenean civilization.  Greek religion emerged as an amalgamation of various civilizations and races, Zeus, Demeter and Hestia were initially Gods of the Indo-European invaders, Rhea was a Minoan Goddess, God Athena belonged to Mycenean, Hera and Hermes were borrowed from Aegean, God Apollo came from Ionian, Aphrodite was Cyprus, Dionysus and Ares belonged to the Thrace.

  5. The Christian / Catholic religion came from (originally) Egyptian and pagan mythology, which later became embraced by the greeks.  Religion was developed, truth was quashed.  Truth is still quashed.  You have to dig deep to find what the original manuscripts meant.

  6. Well most Greek mythology is basically the story of their religion. The only real exceptions are the stories by Homer, such as The Oddessy and the Battle of Troy.

  7. Everything.  Greek mythology is about the gods, Zeus, Apollo, etc... that the ancient Greeks worshiped.  That was their religion.  Each city and town would have a patron god and would build a temple to that god where they would worship and leave offerings.  The ancient Greeks believed that the gods controlled everything from the weather to the tide to the annual harvest.

  8. I love Greek Mythology!!! sorry just had to say that... Relgion I believe is something that people need to believe in order to feel their is purpose in our lives. Also i think it's hard to grasp for most that when you pass, that is it. people need to believe in an after life .Also I believe people need to believe there is something higher then our selves to say what is right and what is wrong. I believe that is why they have done this. To fullfil some sort of life reason and purpose.
