  1. Humans have selected various crops over the years and improved them through natural selection and/or hybridization.  Corn is an excellent example of this.  Many of the wild corn species first had very small cobs and kernels and through selecting the plants with larger cobs and larger kernels corn plants of today barely resemble their wild ancestors. American farmer further changed corn from a multicolored crop to one that is almost all yellow today.


  2. plant breeding - as a part of agriculture, man started rearing plants and animals to meet his requirements. This is when humans started to learn how to influence the process of natural evolution so as to breed plant or animals.
