Fungi, mosses, and bacteria can actually erode rocks and add to the soil layer.  They can excrete chemicals that will break down the rocks which will then create a high nutrient level high mineral level sediment/soil mixutre.  This constant recharge of minerals allows for other species of organisms to coexist.


  2. Fungi and bacteria both live in the soil so they are the ones to which the soil is providing services and not the other way.
