What role does the theme of identity and belonging play in Harrison Ford's moive "Witness"?

  1. Having seen the film a few times, I'd say Identity was something to be protected for one thing, By the boy and Harrison as a Guardian of the boy.

       Secondly the boy, and his family were in a system, easily identifiable, chose to be, yet as shown, Harrison and Kelly, attempted to cross a line.

       Belonging, in one sense was the way the people were portrayed in a most tight knit, familial sense, and even though an outsider, Harrison was taken in, cared for, and worked in their system for a time, although the acceptance on both sides was handled somewhat begrudgingly.

       In the end it seems everyone learned lessons, and also learned that one cannot always change who they are, where they came from, or their place in life
