What role should Kobe Bryant take at the Los Angeles Lakers next NBA season?
The 33 year old Kobe Bryant, without an obscurity is one of the greatest forces to have adorned the NBA court ever. He is a scoring machine with an ability to create shots for himself and an outstanding three-point shooter. He
uses his wide range of moves to escape defenders and score from almost everywhere in the paint. Apart from his scoring ability, he has also authorized himself as a brilliant defender having made it into all All-Defensive team for last 12 years.
In his fifteen magnificent years, Bryant has achieved almost everything that a player dreams off. Bryant has won Lakers five championships so far including two consecutive ones in 2009 and 2010 and managed to grab finals most valuable
player award on both occasions. He has made appearances in 13 NBA All-Star games and won the MVP in 2008 after ending with an outstanding average of 26.8
Kobe has single handedly won Lakers a lot of games. When he started his career, he was a bit of a facilitator however as his career progressed, he turned into more of a playmaker because of unlimited reasons.
Being a playmaker, he has done exceptionally well- proof being the championships of 2009 and 2010. And now with a new coach and management, Kobe probably will have to continue being a playmaker rather than a facilitator if Lakers
want to make it back to NBA finals.
Phil Jackson is not around anymore and with new coach in the form of Mike Brown, Lakers will not be running a triangle offense as Mike Brown will obviously have a new strategy up his sleeves.
Mike Brown is yet to coach a game for Lakers and his relations with Bryant will not be any way near to how they were between Phil and Kobe. Mike will be aware of the fact that Kobe is the backbone of the team and in trying to keep
good relations with him; Brown is likely to give him the extra charge of offense. But Brown will have to come up with a clear strategy where other players in the team are also assigned a definite role
Coaching a team studded with stars will be hard nut to crack. What if the new coach fails to deliver and in focusing more on Kobe, forgets about rest of the rosters? This will be a catastrophe and Lakers will suffer terribly.
With Phil now gone, there is an extra responsibility on the shoulders of Kobe to lead the team. Kobe might not be left with any options except taking the charge of offense. He will be required to use his playmaking abilities more
efficiently this time around. Whenever the season starts, it will be interesting to see whether he decides to be a facilitator or a playmaker
