I have a linxys SRX200 but it constantly looses the wireless connection. I am wondering if there is two much distance between the laptop and the router. The router is connection to the pc upstairs on one end of the house and the laptop is downstairs on the other end of the house. If you think there might be a distance problem should I purchase another router or is there another option?

  1. Purchasing another router would probably help.

The signal strength inside a house is usually weaker because of interference, walls, etc. If the signal strength from the router is good (when you see the available networks), then it isn't your router thats the problem, its your wireless card not being powerful enough.

I just purchased a Linsys WRT150N (wireless N) for $70 because I already have N cards and I have good signal over a 2 acre lot.

  2. You need to answer a question.

Does the pc close to the router lose connectivity also? If it does, then the problem may well be the modem < is losing connectivity.

If the pc is NOT losing connectivity to the router, then the problem is with the laptop.

Make sure the laptop is in a good line of sight to the router signal.  Too many bounces could affect connectivity.

Distance can also be a problem.  Your router manual can explain the limits of that brand router.
