Question:

What rugby gear do I need?

I recently joined a rugby club and I'm not sure about what I need. I know that I should get:

*compression shorts

*rugby shorts

*mouthguard

*knee-high socks

*rugby "boots"

Is there anything else I need?

Also, could I buy regular soccer cleats instead of rugby boots?

  1. cycling shorts will work just as well.you don't need really boots, unless you're a prop, cos i'm a kicker for the team i play for in ireland and i just use nike t90 soccer boots.shoulder pads and a baselayer might help aswell,go to prodirectrugby.com to find everything.hope that helps!

  2. Definitely go with rugby boots over soccer cleats. Also go with the aluminum cleats if allowed. Some leagues shy away from metal cleats. If your playing a forward position you might consider a scrum cap or tape your ears down, they can get roughed up. Give yourself a pat on the back for taking up a great sport!

  3. You need me as team physio

  4. soccer boots are a lot better than rugby ones unless you are a prop, also consider a sports bra? cycling shorts work well for compressions shorts, also a rugby top to train in unless your club issues you with one.

  5. wow thats pretty awesome...

umm you didnt mention a shirt lolz and you should ask your club because you might buy gear you dont need or dont have correct gear...

  6. using football (soccer) cleats or studs is a bad idea.  you should get boots with 100% aluminium studs, not the half metal/half plastic ones, as they can become sharp and cause cuts.

even if the boots come with football style studs, replacement ones should be easy enough to find.

    good luck with the rugby

  7. you can wear regular soccer cleats because i do the only thing you have to do is change the soccer cleat studs to aluminum ones because soccer studs are illegal; to play in for rugby

  8. Jockstrap.
