Personally i think pure mage is best if u can afford the runes and have Iban's staff(members staff allowing use of Iban blast). at level 65 i killed a level 87 in the fighting arena (no walls, food, pots, or prayer).

that and you get the perks of high level spells like telportation, alchemy, etc.
