  1. No, In showing, English I assume, You use just a plain white show pad.  those are the fitted ones that just barely outline the saddle.

  2. In English Pleasure/Hunter the proper type of saddle pad to use is a fitted white pad, preferably the fuzzy type.

That says, for low level shows it doesn't matter so much.

  3. Are you riding english or western?

In english you want a pad shaped to your saddle.

In western you want a square pad.

    Hope I could help (:

  4. Are you talking about western or english?

In western, it's in style to have a blanket.  It should match your outfit.  You can wear the number on your back, get number holders/winning numbers pads, or if your shows give you two numbers - you can pin them on both sides of your blanket (they even make pretty pins you can buy).

In english (hunt), you can use the toklat ez view number pads (they have the plastic pockets that the numbers go inside of) or you can use one of the shaped white pads and pin the number on your back.  Either is appropriate for schooling/open/4H shows, but once you move up to the breed shows a toklat pad is the norm.

I am not a pro in saddleseat, but I have only seen riders wear the number on their back.

    Hope this helps!

EDIT:  DO NOT GIVE ME THUMBS DOWN.  I KNOW WHAT I'M TALKING ABOUT - IN THE HUNTER UNDER SADDLE CLASSES THE TOKLAT EX VIEW # PADS ARE THE NORM!  HERE IS A YOUTUBE CLIP FROM THE WORLD SHOW _ THEY ALL HAVE TOKLAT PADS!!!

  5. I'd get a fitted one.

  6. In English showing, you only NEED a fitted saddle pad...you CAN have a decorative square pad (for example, when I was in high school, we had a show team, and we all had matching quilted square pads with our school logo on them), but it would only be, as I said, decorative.  A fitted pad is necessary to show. :) Good Luck in the ring, and welcome to the best sport ever!!!!

  7. You need a square one for western pleasure and fitted English pad under your saddle. They come in different thickness so make sure you buy the right one
