Which one is better for a high withered TB?

I'm going to be jumping, hacking, and training and showing.

  1. It really depends. I would measure your horse and then judge which saddle would fit him best. The very best you could do is go to a tack shop and actually test saddles on him.

  2. The second one because it says it is good for  high withered horse. Also it is a cut back

  3. They both look good, but it's best to have a fitted saddle, as these are more comfortable for both you and your horse. I would choose the second as it is for high withered horses, but talk to your trainer

  4. Just based on that, I would say the second. It allows for more room over the withers, and you don't want to buy a saddle that won't fit! But I agree with the first post-measure him and make sure it will fit properly.

  5. Neither. A saddle that doesn't come in width fittings will be unlikely to fit.

  6. I'd pass these by.  The reason is that they are probably made in India for the price tags and if you are going to be possibly showing your horse you want something that will hold up and not look "cheap" in the showring.

Take your money and go look on ebay.  Do you even know the size of saddle that will fit you?  You should be looking at something made in Europe, NOT India or Argentina.  A couple of weeks ago I helped a gal out here and we found some GREAT deals on ebay.  You may want to look at close contact, Crosby, Crump etc, cut back saddles or maybe if you're looking for all purpose something like a Stubben Siegfried (German), Kieffer, Pariani, just to name a few brands.

To find your seat size, you need to measure from your knee to your hip.  As for your horse's size probably most TBs take a narrow to medium tree but without a picture of your horse untacked, it's hard to make an assumption.

Here's one that a big LARGE, but will give you an idea about what's available on ebay.

    Best of luck.

  7. I think the second one.  I had many hi-withered OTTBs That I retrained for jumping and trails, and I really loved the wintec all purpose 500.

  8. I would say the secound one because it acualy says its for high withered horses

  9. Ehhh I agree with sue. I also wouldn't order saddles online, a in-town tack store is always more appropriat since you can touch it and try it out and all.

  10. Um, I like the build of the second one better but it has no knee rolls ( if you like to sink your knees into a juicy roll while in mid-air) but both of the saddle s have really low pomles (that front part that curves up, by the crotch)

and for my tb whom also has higher withers i am in a new generation gen x pessoa. It has a deeper seat and a higher pomel! so try for something with a higher pomel than those

good luck and keep up the search

  11. I've ridden in the first one once, and it was a piece of c**p.

If you HAVE to get one of them, then go with the second. But don't expect it to be all that great of quality. And there is no bet on which one is going to fit better - it all depends on the horse. Get him measured.

  12. Have you narrowed it down to only these two?

There's lots of saddles out there for various price ranges and you should probably be more educated on the saddle's fit than a guess. Try tack stores in state to get a sense of the types of saddles out there and take some brands on trial to get a feel for how certain types fit your horse. Also consider if this is your forever horse, or if eventually he'll be sold. There are saddles out there compatible for a greater variety of horses. A wider gullet is ideal if you plan to fit it to other horses in the future.

  13. no. two
