So far I have just a helmet and some gloves, I've seen 2 bad wrecks in the past week, so I'm thinking I should problly get more stuff just incase, what would you guys recommend? Oh and one thing, I can't stand wearing tight clothes I get extremely clostraphobic, so keep that in mind, and is there armor I could buy to just wear under my clothes? If there is could you also recommend some brands to check out?

  1. def need a dot/snell approved hemlet (dot approved at the least, recommend snell since you say you've already been in 2 wrecks) and one w/ a full face unless you want to scrape you face off the pavement... def a jacket w/ elbow, shoulder and spine armor... if you're not cool with tigh clothes look into some draggin jeans - they have kevlar and extra knee and seat protection, they also have jackets as well. good gloves are always a must and ankle high boots. good luck and safe riding.

  2. icon makes body armor that you can wear under your clothes.  make sure your helmet is snell approved, DOT doesn't test helmets they just measure thickness.

wear boots that go over the ankles, and ALaWYS wear pants on a motorcycle.

  3. ATGATT - All The Gear All The Time.   I know, realistically, most people aren't going to deck out for every ride.  But, you should.  Especially as a beginner.

Gloves, jacket, boots, jeans (at least, if not riding pants), and a FULL FACE helmet.    If $$$ is an issue, try Tourmaster/Cortech for threads.  Decent quality for the money.   Spend the dough on a good helmet.   Shoei or Arai.

  4. you should  buy a jacket with armor they also sell armor by itself just go to a dealer and check out what they got. sometimes they have great sales on protective wear

  5. I always wear the full gear: Helmet, gloves, boots, jacket and trousers (both with impact protection).

I came off my bike when I was a beginner. It was raining and I slipped on a wet manhole cover. I was not wearing my motorcycle trousers and I ended up both my knees badly bruised. I was wearing my jacket and it protected my arms.

Motorcycle gear is also typically water proof (I live in Ireland so I can never predict when it will not rain).

I wear Spada trousers which are excellent (water proof, knee protection and detachable thermal layer) and Segura jacket. It has impact protection (elbows, back and shoulder), a detachable thermal layer and waterproof.

If you imagine what it would be like being dragged across tarmac at 30 mph and imagine what that would do to your skin, then I think that motorcycle gear is a must. People say they are too hot, but when you are actually riding then the air cools you down. My other jacket (I don't have it here) has air vents which really cools you down as you ride.

The clothes are not restrictive and are like wearing an ordinary jacket and trousers. They are warmer and when you walk any distance in them you will be sweating, but on the bike they are perfectly fine.

  6. A jacket is a must. And maybe wear jeans. Basically wear heavy stuff to protect yourself.

  7. As much as you can, jeans wont help you if you fall off, I helped a guy that fell of in jeans the other day and I could actualy see his knee cap, not the nicest thing, dragon jeans make kevlar lined jeans won't save you from big falls but will help as they are abraision resistant, leather is the way to go, quility is key, but I gues cheap stuff is better than no stuff, my mate went out for a beach cruz and hit some sand at a round about and the amount of gravel rash he had from that crash was scarry, nothing like scraping stones out of your mates back, but thats what happens when you ride in at-shirt. Spend the money, you can buy armour that is held on a net like material that zips up like a jacket and you can wear clothes over it, but seriously you may as well just get a jacket,  a textile one with armour  would be looser but again wont be as good as leather, get boots as well, with ankle protection, ever seen someones foot facing the wrong way, I have spend the money mate.

  8. every part of ur body must be protected..
