I have been playing a Bb clarinet for three years. Now I want to buy a saxophone. What is the one I can easiest play on? A Bb soprano saxophone? What about the others?

  1. Most players start on an alto, me and you are in the same boat. I played clarinet for 3 years and then decided to do jazz in high school. So my best friend taught me the tenor. Tenor Sax is easy to switch from clarinet because they're both in the key of Bb and the fingerings are pretty easy/same but you need to learn how to control you're breathing. Start doing breathing exercises and long tones to build up muscles. Tenor sax players play a lot of very low notes and a lot of very high notes and unlike the clarinet, it can be extremely flat or extremely sharp. I would suggest NOT buying a soprano because they are very expensive for a good one and they're made out to be the hardest sax to CONTROL not learn. So on buying a tenor, just go to the music store a rent one for about $20 a month. If you don't like it, trade it in for an alto and try that. Not much of a difference just less air and new scales. If you have any time in your schedule talk to your teacher about music lessons, they will help you on clarinet AND sax in the long run. But that's only if you like the sax. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do. Best of luck...

  2. You should go with alto first if you want something easy.

The tenor sax is bigger so you need more air but the alto is smaller.

My parents own a music store. So when I blew into an alto, it was so easy to make sound, on the tenor, all I heard was air.Though the fingerings for all saxes are similar the alto is much easier, that's why basically everyone plays sax.

    I hope I helped!!!

  3. You'll probably find alto or tenor easiest - I picked up the alto after playing clarinet for five years.  Soprano sax is a tricky beast, you'd think it would be easy for clarinet players but it isn't so much - the alto's embouchere is closest to the clarinet's.  Once you're comfortable on alto you can generally pick up tenor and baritone sax pretty easily and move onto the soprano - but in my experience you'll have to work harder with the soprano than you will with any of the others.  So, in a nutshell, alto or tenor is your best bet.

  4. get a tenor or alto

  5. WHY!!!!! is everyone concerned, about easy playing instead of the sound that they want?

Figure out which instrument sound you prefer and go for it.  There is not that much difference in the learning of any of the Sax.

  6. if you play the clarinet and am new to THE WORLD OF SAX then you, and all masters of the saxophone, which i am not yet, unfortunately, will say to buy an alto saxophone.  altos are the easiest to play, the sax with the most range, and, unlike the tenor which was made for jazz, or the baritone which was made to have a low tone in the woodwinds, or the soprano which is not used in most bands, the alto was made for classical, jazz, country, and yes even rock.  if you decide after a while that you want to switch to another, then you might want to switch to the tenor for a more jazzy feel or the baritone for the trombone feel. but both the tenor and the baritone are in the low part of the range. a tip on tenors and baritones: baritones have the same rhythm and notes as the trombones and the tenor has the same notes and rhythms as the baritone.  but if you want to play the soprano, i highly doubt that it will be in band, you are welcome to try.  sopranos have a high range.

    hope i helped!

    SAXOPHONES ROCK!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. I played clarinet for two years and then switched to alto. But I think really any saxophone is good I found the tenor wasn't as easy as the bari or alto. Peronally I found the baritone sax the easiest but that isn't relly a instrument to buy (very exspensive)I recomend alto or maybe saprano but I never tryed saprano but I would agree with that one being pretty easy. Good luck!!
