This is an excellent field and there appears to be a shortage of talent in this area. I know there are general Aerospace Engineer degrees but is there a school with a degree in this one area? Are there any Fly by Wire Engineers online I can talk to or professional organizations?

  1. I personally strongly dislike the students and the reputation of this school based on attitudes, but I would suggest University of Washington.  They have a good engineering program that includes aeronautical/aerospace, electrical and mechanical engineering.  A counselor in their college of engineering would be able to help you decide on what works best for you.  Many engineers cross over into other fields and many degrees offered allow some room to customize your classes depending on career goals.  A good example is Oregon State University offers an Engineering Physics degree.  With that degree you meet with a college of engineering adviser and select a custom course load of engineering classes.  Many physics classes are taken also, but many physicist work in many closely related engineering fields

  2. The design of fly-by-wire technology involves electrical and mechanical engineers far more than aerospace engineers.

  3. I work as an aviation engineer for the military. My specialty is power systems for aircrafts in my division we also do wiring systems. We call them "The Wire guys" and there is absolutely no college in the world that can teach you how to do their job. It is all on-the-job training. The most I can tell you is the fact that a degree in electrical/electronics engineering is required. It's a pretty cool job you get to travel around the world doing your job and trust me you'll travel. The people at my job are on the road 300 days a year is a very demanding job, so if you don't want to travel a lot don't even think about it. I have a family so it wasn't an option for me.

    Good Luck
