What school program should i use to help a friend learn how to spell and read and basic math

my friend is almost 17,he has very poor spelling and reading skills and almost no math skills.he has limited funds for hooked on phonics or other programs.I want to help him,but I'm not a teacher and have no idea were to start.can anyone help me,help a friend?

Does your friend have any interest in helping himself? Get him invested by asking him to ask adults at school for help. If he is interested in learning, he has the right to be taught there at school, including remedial education. All you have to do is point him in the right direction.The key is to get him to invest in his own learning, get him to see how important it is, and show him how to learn for himself. Show him the library and explain how it works and be there when he has questions. You can't do it for him at 17, though. He has to see the importance of education and want to go after it himself. When he himself has the questions, you can then help him get what he needs at school.
