  1. Wow, i want to know the answer to this question also!......

  2. School supplies for college are usually minimal.

Definitely get an accordion folder or individual folders to keep all your papers from each class. Be sure to get at least one binder or notebook in order to take notes and do in-class stuff. Index cards are good for studying before exams/quizzes. Pens and/or pencils (whichever you prefer, most professors don't care) are a necessity. A backpack or messenger bag is a good idea. Laptop bags work great, and they can play a dual role.

Some professors might have specific things they want you to get, but they should let you know on first day of class.

Don't worry about going overboard with school supplies: just get what you need and what you think you will use and save your money. The extra cash comes in handy to buy laundry supplies, snacks, and stuff for your dorm room.

  3. Good question...This is coming from a person in their senior year of college and it has helped me get through every semester smoothly.

    One Binder and Numerous Dividers:

In college you can have up to 8, even 9 classes. Each one may have it's own book, syllubus, etc. What I do is, to cut down on carrying so much, I buy one Binder (1 in. or greater). In the Binder I place dividers (one for each class, make sure you label them) and then I place paper in each section (to take notes on). That way, I don't have to carry a thousand notebooks everyday. Also, I usually choose a divider with a pocket so that I can keep the syllubus/schedule for each class with me all the time.

You might want to also have 2 or 3 folders handy for homework you get back, assignments, etc. Sometimes I use the large brown envelopes.

    Pens/Pencils/Ziploc Bag:

Okay so I know you might want to get all the cool, name brand items, but the easiest way to keep all your things together is have one large Ziploc bag. Keep all your pens, pencils, highlighters, etc in it. It may sound crazy, but it keeps everything together and you can see what all you have right through the bag.

When it comes to what types of pens and pencils to use, everyone has their own type, but my choice is Precise V5 Rollin Ball; Fine Point pen. It helps me jot down notes a lot faster (Warning:It will seep through paper, so keep enough paper handy). Also, stick with black pens; they look more professional than colored ink.

I prefer Mechanicle Pencils, that way you dont have to worry about not having a sharpener handy at all times. However, keep one or two regular pencils too. They're great for back up.

Highlighters: Get them! Get them in more than one color; sometimes I use varies colors to distinguish related things. Always have a nice, large yellow one(the basic one).

Also, If you're the type of person who has notes everywhere or want to keep things very organized; get Post-Its, too. They have them in various color and sizes. You can use it to bookmark a page, write side notes while reading, etc.

White Out: I prefer the one that comes as a little strip dispenser. Good to have.

Keep all these right in the Ziploc Bag.

I know you just asked about supplies, but here are a few things just to help you even further...

I usually carry a tote bag, instead of a book bag. I find it easier to reach in and grab a pen, paper, homework, etc. (Especially on those late days when you need to rush in and start taking notes.) Plus, it allows me to keep my laptop with me at all times. In the winter, I use a regular book bag because of all the snow/rain/sleet/ slips on ice, etc.

Get a small date book/calendar that you can carry around with you. Trust me! This will make life so much easier. Make up a key/chart that tells you the name of the class, homework, test, exams, etc.

For example: lets say I have a paper due on Monday in Math and an exam the same day in English. On that day I write (M:P3) and (E:Ex). So that lets me know my thrid paper is due in math and my exam is in english. I also highlight, with different colors, to help me remember and see important dates, etc.

There are other things I do, but I don't want to leave such a long post. But these are the essentials to having an organized, as possible, life in college. If you need any more tricks and trip, just email me.

    :-) Good luck!
