  1. ask ur kid what he/she really wants

for example, one student would prefer a binder, while another might like a spiral notebook

the essentials for 9th grade (im in 10th grade)

    are:

pencils (mechanical- extra lead, regular- sharpener)

    binder/notebook

    looseleaf

    folders

    pens

backpack (let ur kid choose their own)

    pencil case

for extra ideas, go to staples and they have a list for each grade of supplies

tips: if u use a binder, buy reinforcements (the little stickers to keep the papers from ripping)

buy highlighters, one sharpie, lots of pens, tab dividers for organization, and a few report covers for big projects

    good luck!

  2. Throughout high school, I used one color folder with pockets and brads for each class, and I put everything from that class in that folder. I tried to cover my books to match the folders. Then I was sure to grab the right supplies for each class. I also carried a notebook... the "neat sheet" kind that is like a spiral but the paper tears out neatly without the fringe. This way, I never needed a backpack. If I were to do it again, I would carry a backpack with those same supplies. I highly recommend the Jansport "big student" backpack, because it comes in lots of nice colors, has lots of compartments, including two large ones, and is virtually indestructable. It should last all four years.

For the first day of school, I would suggest a couple of pens and pencils in a pencil pouch or purse or pocket (don't know if it's your son or daughter), and one folder with some notebook paper in it. That way, he/she can collect all of the first day papers, like syllabi and forms for you to fill out at home, and even homework from some mean teachers! Then, by the end of the first week, I'd encourage the new high schooler to organize into subjects, rather than carrying everything in one binder, because that's how things get lost.

  3. Basic things like binders, pencils, pens, white lined paper, and notebooks.  By 8th grade they don't usually things like glue sticks, scicors, and coloring utencils.  Just think of the what you really need and use your common sense.

  4. dont they tell you this at your registration?

  5. Just get pencils and plenty of college ruled binder paper for the first day. The teachers will usually hand out a syllabus and let you know what materials they require for the year on the first or second day of school.
