I finished 8th grade in June and took an SAT practice test. I scored 1880, is that good? I want to get into an Ivy League, Princeton, Harvard, Stanford isn't an Ivy League but I still want to go. On the track I'm on right now, is that a possibility?

  1. Ivy League wants at least a 2000

  2. That is an AMAZING score, especially for you being an freshman in high school!! I think that you are definitely on the right track to getting into that school of your choice. Keep practicing and trying. Also, consider taking some subject tests to give yourself an edge in admissions.

    ALL THE BEST!!

  3. It is a good score and it will go up with a couple more years of schooling and studying. Ivy league schools are looking for about a 2100 so thats what you should try and aim for in the coming years.

For specifics here are the score ranges of accepted students at each school that you want to go to:

    Princeton: 2080-2360  http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/se...

    Harvard:2090-2380 http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/se...

    Stanford:2000-2310 http://collegesearch.collegeboard.com/se...

Remember that SAT is not the only thing. Take a challenging course load including honors and AP classes, make sure your GPA is high (3.75 or higher is what is listed. When you open any of the links I gave you if you click the 'At a Glance' section it will show you GPA at the bottom), have good relationships with your teachers so that you can get good recommendations, community service, and some leadership positions.

    best of luck

  4. It's pretty good, especially for someone who just finished middle school.  Typical Ivy League-caliber SAT scores are at least in the 2200s, so you could probably have that in a couple of years if you study and practice.

However, know that the SAT is a tiny factor in what determines admission to those kinds of schools.  It's more about demonstrating who you are, what you care about, and demonstrating your willingness to push yourself academically.

  5. a bunch of people that got 2400 on their SAT didn't get into MIT, so it's not everything. your grades are worth more

p.s. who graded your essay? the essay is worth 180 points (30%)
