What schools have good programs in microbiology, more specifically virology? I want a career in virology.

  1. That's something you'll need a PhD for - you can't major in virology, and usually not in microbiology.  That's a specialty that you take up when you begin your graduate (masters, PhD) work.  To know what to take as an undergrad, look up graduate programs in virology and find out what their admissions requirements are.  

    For example, here's the requirements for applying to the virology dept at Harvard:

    "To qualify for admission, applicants must demonstrate strong enthusiasm and ability for the vigorous pursuit of scientific knowledge. Minimal requirements include a bachelor's degree and undergraduate preparation in calculus, physics, biology, and chemistry, both physical and organic. Strong consideration is given to letters of recommendation, particularly to comments from individuals who have firsthand knowledge of the applicant's research experience. Some programs may request a personal interview."

    So a major in biology or biochemistry and the pre-med courses seem advisable.  You can do that almost anywhere.
