I am looking for schools with a strong Zoology background. I have a passion for raising animals and caring for them. The programs that concern farming and agriculture are not in my interests. Any ideas with schools that have a definite Zoology programs would greatly appreciated. Thank you much.

  1. cornell- major bio school with an animal science major and vet school

  2. There are a lot of Colleges that offer Zoology, Animal Sciences, animal management, vet schools....  I'm not sure there is a "best" college. What makes a college good is what you think about the college, what others think about the college, the college's reputation, the quality of education you get there, how the college and it's staff helps your pursue your career, etc.

You have a passion raising and caring for animals, but WHAT do you want to do, WHAT animals do you want to work with?  zookeeper, wildlife rehab, animal sanctuaries, zoo vet, marine animal vet, .....

You don't just want to look for a college with Zoology/Animal Sciences, but one that will help reach the job you are looking to pursue.

You might need to do some of your own research. Look at the degrees the college offers, look at the course/college catalog to get an idea of the classes you'll be taking and what classes are needed for a degree, see if the college offer any intern programs or other programs to help gain experience related to your degree.

Since you want to work with animals you should start getting some experience with them now. Work/volunteer at a zoo, vet clinic, wildlife rehab, marine animal stranding, animal shelter, etc.  There are also some animal/zoo camps you can go to if you are too young to volunteer somewhere. It'd be good if you want to work with marine animals to take swimming classes and possibly become SCUBA certified.

I would also recommend that you go talk to your career counselor at school. When I was interested in possibly going into an animal related career she gave me advise in where to start volunteering (and raptor rehab), some colleges to go to (one of them being Moorpark College's Exotic Animal Training and Management program), and she also advised me on possible careers.
