  1. If you meant, "What do scientists mean...." they mean that there is large variety of life in the region.  They would focus on varitey, because there is actually not that much actual quantity of life there.  The biomass is low and the diversity high.

  3. A high biodiversity means that there are a lot of different plant, animal, etc. species living in a particular area.

    The Himalayas consist of several different environments, but most notably diverse is the alpine meadow. Alpine meadows tend to contain a wide variety of flowering annual plant species.
