  1. Doesn't that depend on the caliber of golfer who is trying for a place on the team? College golf is much more competitive today and has candidates coming from country clubs, golf schools, public links, all of whom are talented . The CT Junior Amateur tournament being held this week will have qualifying scores with a maximum of 6 over for the 32 spots of match play. The medalist will shoot 2 under to even par if past scores are any indication. The max age is 18 at entry date.

  2. To make almost any college golf team these days, you have to be very close to a scratch player. The fourth or fifth player might be a two or three handicap, but at most schools, every member of the team is scratch or better.
