Question:

What search method could I use to find a local seamstress?

I'm trying to find a seamstress that possibly works out of their home to alter a wedding gown. I just got quotes from a bridal shop and a "cleaners" spot in Chicago and both are well over $250! I only paid $200 for the dress and it seems silly to spend so much just to hem it. That's all I need.

So my question is where can I look to find a local seamstress? Thanks.

  1. Try asking at fabric stores and dry cleaners. Seamstresses often post business cards at fabric stores. Finding one that can pattern from a picture may be tricky. Ask to see photos of their work. Ask about price. You want someone local if possible, so they can measure and fit you in person.
