Heres the deal for seasons in Montreal, September rains, then from October to April it's fricken freezing cold, lotsa snow and ice, and cold cold temperatures, then it warms up to rain in May, then its road repair season for the humid summer months of June, July and August until the fricken freezing starts again.  We actually joke that we only have two seasons Winter and Construction.

I think you already know what dates seasons officially change (21st of December, March, June, September). But as a general weather rule for Montreal (and all of the Saint-Laurence seaway), the seasons are as follows:

December-February: Winter

March-May: Spring

June-August: Summer

September-November: Fall/Autumn

Unfortunately, Canadian weather is crazy all year round. If you are lucky/unlucky (depending on how you see it), there will already be at least a foot of snow (30CM) with temperatures hovering between -10C and -30C. You can also have the opposite, temperatures in the past couple years have been known to go above 0C, all the way up to 10C (winter 06-07). But these are short warm spells, quickly followed by a true Canadian Arctic frigid air.

To sum it up. It depends. One thing's for sure...they'll call it winter!

It's technically still Autumn until december 21st, then it's winter.  But it most definetely feels like winter! Not as cold as January and February though
