What section of the US tax code covers public schools?

  1. It's not 509(a)(1). That's the section that regulates public charities. It includes "churches, schools, hospitals, and other organizations that receive their public support primarily from gifts, grants and contributions" so that would cover some *private* schools, but not any public ones.

    What exactly are you trying to find out about public schools? There could be many different parts of the US Code that apply, depending on what information you're looking for.


  2. If you want to know where the money comes from for public schooling, it comes from real estate tax. When you pay property tax on your home, it is for the services offered in  return, public schools, fire and rescue etc.
