  1. You'll have an ocean in Rajasthan.. and dont be surprised.. coz you know where the water's coming from...

  2. That we had already seen couple of yrs back at Kinnaur valley, there will be initially flash floods, then drying up of rivers, rise of sea, famine, drastic weather change. We must immediately take steps to stop it.

  3. 1.Sea lwater evel will increase and people in coastal areas will be submerged.

    2. Ocean flora & fauna will be disturbed and their survival will be in danger.

    3. Terrorist will enter the country from the border and will be dangerous for the safety of the country

  4. Melting Himalayas will not only pose security threat to the region but its an indication of threat to survival of mankind on this planet. Its just a part of a bigger ecological problem we'll face in near future.

    * Melting of Himalaya may or may not result in flood but they do raise sea level, our ports and nearby cities will get drowned in sea. Water level in sea is increasing slowly.

    * Our major rivers will not carry enough water for irrigation.

    * Hydro electric projects which are coming up or already exist will become useless.

    * Seasons will also get effected, they've already shifted and will continue to do so.

    * Herbs, fruits and vegetable will suffer.

I don't think we can predict all the things if we mess with nature, so its better to realise our mistake as a society and take its responsibility.

  5. There are more than one risk in this situation. It can cause flood in the river flowing from it. it can change the environment cycle...we'll lose paradise on earth

  6. The melting of himalayas can cause flooding danger.

  7. well, every one seems to be pointing out rather clearly what the climatic, ecological and bio diversity consequences of the "Melting Himaliyas" would be. Now to answer the question at hand, the security threat. It might not be extremely magnitudanal at this time and era, considering that times have changed from the med evial ages, when they acted like the greatest wall ever protecting nothern invasions from China. But , taking into consideration the technology available now, we have more to fend them off than just the emighty structure. However, since the height of the mountains would considerably reduce due the the snow covered peaks melting away, probably traversing them would become easier. Also, it would be far less climatically inhospitable to climb. We would in all probablity have to increase our BSF man power resoucres and deploy them along that border of the country, which presently is reletively less guarded. It would in all probability lead to illegal immigrations and insurgency intances would be on a rise.

  8. I can't think of security risk, but the most profound effect will be the entire northen India will be flash-flooded, sure.

The ecology and all environmental patterns will change there as well as in India.

Tremendous loss of agricultural production and loss of property will be there.

    Ohhh...scary, scary things.

  9. If you travel up to Gangotri, you will discover a temple which has been built at 3200 m high, in the eighteenth century, was at that time at the foot of the glacier. That glacier is nowadays 22 Km from that temple, and 400 meters above...

That glaciers in the Himalayas are melting away is nothing new!

  10. It all rubish.  Natural cycle is capable to handle the so called melting situation.  Other effecting processes like vapaorization, water usage,  under earth absorption, overhead distribution, etc are unseen now.  No forsighting can be true.  Global warming cannot effect Himalayas more.

  11. This is Great risk the future Indian subcontinent going to face, Indian population increasing in 1.5% per year, now is 1.1 billion in 2030 India Population will be 1.3 billion, nearly 25% of population live near Ganga valley and Indus River the life line of Pakistan, if all river sinks people are going to suffer, Only way to stop it is reduce Green House Gas, Reforesting  Sub_Himalayas and Controlling the growth of population.

  12. Their is a high risk since more than 80% is covered by water and if more ice melts then their is a  possibility that water level  will increased.

  13. Not only himalayas but the glaciers also are melting and this is leading to rise in level of sea water , which will result in massive distruction of the wholle world by flods all over the world

this is the result of global warming

  14. The melting of himalayas would surely cause flood in northern India

Moreover as the Himalayas prevent India to become a cold desert... I think melting of Himalayas can cause a high security risk!!!

  15. Himalayas have always provided us security since the time they evolved from cold wind of north , from froeign countries like pak ,china and also they are d source of rivers. As of global warming ice capes will melt n life around himalayans valley will be destroyed. The Himalayan regions will suffer from drastic change of climate n weather.

  16. The melting himalayas will get more water with them with huge force thru mountains and will uproot the trees and eroise the land base threatening the population on the banks of the rivers. The water level at the plains will be much higher and it can lead to flash floods and can cause harm to the standing crop fo harvesting. due to fast melting glaciers the ice level in the mountains will be reduced and the day will not be far when the rivers like ganga will be extinct from the universe.the weather cycle shall totally change with this phenomen.this is all happening due to the global warming.we have to stop deforestation, keep our surroundings free form the lethal gases and we have to search for other sources than organic  like solar energy and atomic energy so that our ecological balance is retained in the world.

  17. No security Risk.....surprised yes.........quite an irony the ice in the himalayas is due to its height but at the poles it due to its location...if the ice melted at the himalayas....the ice at the poles must have already melted too...and by then we must have ceased to exist...in other words dont bother for the ice at the himalayas....

  18. Rivers will dry, mountains would be barren, dams would dry, you will be starved of water, electricity and food. People will fight with each other and would eat each others flesh. These are signals from God of doomsday nearing.

  19. only one point to concentrate. that is we have make greenish our world

  20. Two main risks: (1) Water everywhere (2) Not a single drop of water anywhere.  Unimaginable destruction of humanbeing, cultivation, properties, livestock and many more. The world will be like a frying pan and millions of people will die every year because of heat.  It will be a catastrophic scene, no doubt whatsoever.  Before perishing from this world, let us do something good.  Pray to the Almighty God to forgive our sins and make our children live happily.

  21. due t o melting himalyas the main problem would be rising tempratures droughts, femines etc.more floods, more calamities etc.

  22. Himalayas being the only prominent ice covered peak row in South Asia supplies the major bulk of water required for different purposes  in India. I f the Himalayas melt faster it could accelerate the depletion of water resources in northern India. Also floods could become common and  it could also lead to the destruction of the Sunderbans, one of the hot spots of bio diversity in the world.

  23. It is a blessing in disguise. India has acute water shortage in states like Rajastan.  Access to good water is still a dream for millions of Indians. If Himalayas is going to melt, then there will be huge inflow of water into the rivers. If we have a good strategy to tap this water and distribute through canals and inter-linking of Rivers, water problem in India can be solved almost on permanent basis.

On the environment front, yes, it is indeed a disaster. On the security side, there is little issue as there is no fear that enemies will come through the melted mountains (in-fact India has enemy within itself).

  24. due to melting of Himalayas, there will be floods followed by  dip in river flow , rise in sea levels up to 40 cm higher causing inundation of coastal areas and displacement of more than 50 million people by floods. gangatic plains turn infertile due to no water in the river ganga. food grain production drop by nearly 30%. diseases like dengue and malaria rise rapidly.deaths from diarrhoea diseases because of floods and droughts go up. forests would deplete rapidly and due to rise in ocean temperatures destroys marine life and fisheries.

  25. Depending on the extent of melting of the Himalaya's ice reserves, there will be floods in the regions of the Himalayan ranges and that will invariably cause floods in the plains of lower Indian plains such as Asom, Bihar & west Bengal leading to submergence of large plain areas ---- 'this havoc will damage much to the Indian neighbour Bangladesh'.

Should the melting of the Himalayan ice be acute, it will cause the sea level to rise and that would be catashtrop to entire mankind.

  26. i think the melting Himalayas would make India a cold desert.

all can be attributed to global warming.it would lead to

flash floods and threaten the population living in the  plains.

use less of fossil fuels&more of renewable sources

  27. flood is inevitable due to rise of sea level, half of Bangladesh and many parts of south 24 Parganas Will be inundated and under the sea - people will migrate to places of India which are relatively at higher altitude posing all sorts of problems like border dispute with neighbouring countries, law and order problem, scarcity of food will lead to all sorts of unlawful activities including terrorism. Borders being rendered ill defined will cause cross border skirmishes.

  28. Its happening gradually, resulting in frequent change in weather conditions. There is a low chance for floods but presently the water level is decreasing..be it ground water or rivers. The people are not getting enough water for irrigating the seasonal crops.By the time it rains the crops are already spoiled..This is all due to the increasing pollution which raises global warming. Even the residents in northern part(Punjab,Haryana,Himachal,J&K) are facing problems. The temperature nowdays in winter  doesn't fall so much...The rest of India gets happy when it snows...but the locals there know its only for a while....after sometime we will not be able to  see snow even in the coldest part of our country. Whole of the enviornmental balance is getting disrupted.

  29. The security risk  can reasonably be grouped as follows:

    1] Geographical

    2] Stratagic

    3] Internal

1] Geographical : a) may result in washing off of natural and man made  markings of the International borders.

    b) this may cause permanent change in land scape of areas of borders.

    c) changed geographical land scape may push our armed on back foot as the may not be prepared with  man , machine , technoloy etc  to deal eith such a havoc.

2] Stratagic : a) The Armed forces will face the changed situations like the National Highways liking the main land to the border areas may be washed like consider a scenario wherein the NH 1 Liking the J& K to the rest of India is washed off then it would be only matter of time for Pakistan to take over the territory. other similar stressfull conditions may crop up for Indian Armed forces.

3] Internal : a) the Large scale of flooding of Indian plain may cause wide spread problems like acute shortage of food grain, anarchy as law & order will be rooted out, wide spread epidemics, etc.

  30. it disrupts communication and travel..and so everythincomes to a stndstill

  31. Melting Himalayas pose a high risk that is the result of Nature's fury against humans'  disconcern towards Nature and Life. Melting Himalayas  would gradually flash-flood the whole Northern India that would have a shocking effect on Ecology. When Fresh Water from Melting Himalayas   would mix in the sea water , the salt content would be lowered and eventually a low pressure will be created that would force the air from high pressure to come fast into the low pressure region . This would result in wind storms , Cyclones , Tycoons ,Flash - Flooding , Hailstorming ,etc. and gradually earth would enter another ICE-AGE.

So, Lets Effort To Save Earth......
