What sedative antihistamine (aka like stuff in Nyquil/Benadryl) would be most effective to take on a plane?

I am leaving on a flight tomorrow to Frankfurt that lasts 11 hours or so...I have noticed in the past that by taking Nyquil it would make me drowsy and help me fall asleep..but i doubt they let you take the syrup version of Nyquill on the plane and i wonder if the geltabs or whatever other version of it work the same....Should i go for those or should i drink the syrup version before crossing security ? Any other recommendations ?

Thank you

  1. Concur with above. Don't go with Nyquil, it has all sorts of other things in it you don't need.

You can use diphenhydramine (Benadryl) or Doxylamine(Unisom, Sominix) for mild sedation with a plane flight. Both work very well.

  2. It goes by the name Unisom.  It's doxylamine succinate, an antihistamine that works real well as a sleeping aid.  Don't be confused though, because Unisom also has a dyphenhydramine version of the product.  I've been taking it on and off for years...it does work.  (the doxy stuff )
