  1. You will never see DTS-HD displayed on your reciever using a PS3 player.  The problem is the only way you will see DTS-HD is if the reciever gets the Bluray players "bitstream" audio codec.  Only problem is that the player cannot and will not ever have multichannel bitstream capabilities.  This is a hardware issue and Sony has made it clear there is no need to add this "bitstream" hardware to it's already successful PS3 system.

What the PS3 does is it decodes the DTS-HD signal and passes it as PCM (pulse code modulation).  You will not be able to tell the difference between bitstream and PCM, they are both lossless audio codecs.

Now you have to make sure that you have updated the PS3 to the latest firmware also, so that the PS3 can decode the new DTS-HD codec otherwise all your are getting is the "core" codec which is a lossy format at 1.5Mbps compared to the lossless at speeds up to 24Mbps.

But unless you buy the new Bluray players that are just being released this month, which can transmit DTS-HD and DTS-MA as a bitstream signal, your reciever will just say "Multichannel In", but fear not because that signal is still just as good as if it said "DTS-HD".  Don't worry about it.

  2.       I agree with Matthew' s answer. You have to set Linear on BD/ DVD audio setting on PS3. When you're watching Blu-ray movies, just press display button or audio button on PS3 remote control, you will see DTS-HD MA on your TV screen. One more thing, you have to connect HDMI from PS3 to receiver to get HD sounds .

  3. You can't. The PS3 decodes the lossless formats internally and passes them to your receiver as LPCM. LPCM stands for Linear Pulse Code Modulation. PCM is what CD's music is and is basically the audio, uncompressed, stored as ones and zeros. So teh PS3 sends the raw data across the HDMI cable to your receiver and the receiver doesn't have to do any decoding. You would probably see it as "Multi Channel In" on the front display of the receiver.

Some players can actually pass the encoded bitstream over HDMI to the receiver to decode. You would need such a player to see "DTS HD MA" show up on your receiver's display.

Don't feel bad though because you wouldn't hear any difference between LPCM and bitstream if you had a player that supported both.

  4. You don't need a setting.  What you need is a Blu-ray disc that has a DTS-HD MA track on it.  There are very few of these, because most movies are mixed in Dolby TrueHD.  When you put a movie in with a DTS track on it, your PS3 and receiver will automatically display it.
