  1. You can read about summer study abroad programs here:

    http://www.studyabroaddomain.com/Summer_...

  2. you have decided that you might want to enroll in a study abroad program, where should you go? Most of the popular destinations are in Europe and Asia, so you might want to start there if you are looking to learn more about the world through a study abroad program.

Europe is a great place to begin since the people there will be the most likely to communicate with English and they will offer you classes and programs that are perfect for all of the art, literature and history majors who are studying about that part of the world.

Furthermore, since you are required to take a few basic language courses for the country you choose to study abroad at, it may be easier for you to learn a European language instead of an Asiatic, Middle Eastern or African language. Also, on the weekends you can simply hop on a train and head from one European country to the next during your study abroad session.

  3. It's probably a little late now, but you'd need to find a school with a study abroad program, apply to it, get a passport, plane ticket, etc...

Honestly, forget the studying part.  With hostels, a few train tickets, and a 2 or 3 friends that dont suck you'll have a lot more fun being a vagabond for 3 months!  Fly into somewhere like Rome or Florence and then figure out something from there.  Those cities are pretty centrally located.

Oh, and when in Europe, have a few destinations - but DONT have a set agenda.  The best times are the ones you dont plan!  And if a local recommends something (and they dont seem totally sketchy) check it out!

  4. You still have time although you may have to pay late application surcharge. Hurry and find out before it is too late.

Where would you like to go? Allow me a suggestion.

Spain is a wonderful choice and this program one of the best if not the best of the programs offered abroad world wide. Location is a safe and most amazingly beautiful beach resort in Northern Spain.

Host families are extremely well screened and very loving. This program gets returnees year after year, so great it is.

Cost is really reasonable considering everything included (as long as you sign up with this program through their web site as there are organizations that sell the same program for much more so high quality it is).

Some of the activities and excursions it offers besides Spanish, cooking and dancing classes are: Guggenheim Museum, paella dinner, bullfight, fireworks on the beach, city tour, medieval towns, fishing villages, many beach days, Aquarium, tall ship vessel excursion, Roman village hiking trip, canoening down the river, shopping, and much more. www.beautifulspain.com

It offers you the possibility of enrolling with a friend with whom to share same host family home, or for you to stay alone at host family. Many host families count on children of similar age to participating students.

  5. You have a few options:

    1. Check out this study abroad programs: http://www.macquil.com/abroad.php and see if any of them offer a program that fits your interests and/or budget.

    2. Contact the study abroad office at your school and see if you can apply for any study abroad programs this summer.

    3. Contact American Universities in Europe and see if you can enroll in any of their summer programs (here is a directory of American universities in Europe: http://www.macquil.com/articles/american...

    4. Contact language schools from your target destination and enroll in a language program for the summer. Most language schools offer help with housing and offer tours for students.

    Good luck! :)
