I own my house and want to move to a different area, what with the housing market being as it is i doubt very much i will sell it. I dont want to privately rent it out due to be liable if anything breaks down. I had a quick talk with my local council and they said they will give me 196 pound a week which would be perfect as would cover my mortgage. Would they be liable for any damages? and would they have to return the property to me is a good state? - any other answers with what to do would also be greatly recieved...

  1. Did you not discuss this with the council. I also presume you had to sign a contract with them which you should have read over. You need to go back and talk about all of this with the relevant department before you go ahead with anything.

  2. If you do definitely want to sell up you could look into companies, like A Quick Sale, that buy your house directly from you. It might be an option for you.

If you're not in the UK, there is also a US site.

  3. .   If you click on the flag at the bottom of the page, you will get great answers in the UK section.  In the USA we won't know about the council.

  4. You should examine the council contract, any renter can be liable for damage/normal replacement it depends on the terms in it.Ask the council for their terms and conditions.
