What shape should I build my PVC Kayak?

My next project is a pvc kayak due to my inexperience with wood. I was wondering if I use a rounded bottom in the center and towards the end it becomes triangular,, will it float?

  1. The shape will not determine if it floats.

Only the displacement will do that.

The only significant difference in skills between the two materials would be the gluing of the parts together and you won't have to use epoxy over the PVC to protect it.

I suspect that the PVC will be significantly heavier than the wood.

The PVC will need to have the joints fitted much better than the wood if you want to solvent bond them.

The epoxy used on the wooden kayaks will fill significant gaps.
