I'm taking a trip to Mexico in about 2 weeks, and I'm wondering if anyone who has gone has any tips on things to bring, etc. Obviously bathing suit, sunblock, and so on. I don't need dumb answers like that, thanks.

  1. Plenty of sunscreen (if you run out, you will pay almost twice as much for the cheapest kind there than you would in US) at least two swimsuits (so one can be drying when you wear the other one), comfortable shoes including flip flops (again, bring this with you, I saw them selling plain white flip flops at the gift shop for $12, same kind you can get at Old Navy for $3!), camera, some basic first aid stuff (band-aids, pain reliever, anti-acid etc), magazines or book to entertain you on the way there and if you want to relax on the beach, aloe vera gel in case you do get some sunburn.  Other than that, you're good to go!

  2. canadian, bring a tazer, they may try to kill you...

american, a well sealed and secured passport and documents...

sorry, i had to get this out...

  3. Pepto Bismol!!! Have been there and as soon as you get home you will be sick and have diarrhea. Start taking it a couple of days before you go there. Do not eat any lettuce or drink anything but bottled water or soft drinks. Try the Turtle steak, it's great and tastes just like beef. Have a good time. Be sure to drive all the way around the island, you can see monkeys in trees. You might also see men wearing only their underwear on the beach, I did. If you'd like to buy a Conch shell, be sure to get one from a shop, not one that came straight out of the water, like I did, the creature inside is still alive. I also picked up some small shells on the beach, put them on the dresser in the hotel, and the next morning some of them had crawled away.

  4. We rented a Mexico cell phone from Mexitel Cellular before we left. Best investment ever. Called the US for $1 per call and everyone else (including our transfer operator when we arrived) in Mexico for 50 cents per call - which in Mexico is quite the deal. Can't recommend this enough.

  5. Im going in a couple of weeks too!!

Bring a couple of nice shirts and slacks in case you want to go eat out at a restaurant or go to a club.

Bring one dollar bills, so you can tip the bartenders or whoever.

    Some playing cards maybe.

Maybe an Ipod for the plane ride or just in your room.

Extra underwear, your gonna be in the water.

Maybe a phone card, in case of emergency??

I don't know, just have fun.

  6. Eating any kind of turtle is ILLEGAL. Hope everyone who has tried it or the turtle eggs goes directly to h**l.

  7. If you're going to a resort and are old enough to drink, bring you're own cup... one of the coffee cups with the lids and some straws because theygive you small cups that have to keep refilling.  Camera obviously, batteries, ALOE VERA (I got badly burned even wearing a high SPF sunscreen), a deck of cards is always good, if you want your nails and toenails to stay cute the whole time bring along some nail polish.  CHAPSTICK!!!  If you don't know any spanish try to learn some good spanish phrases like "How much does this cost?" and things like that.  A large bag for souvenir shopping.  obviously cute summery jewelry, your normal toiletries.  If I can think of anything else, I'll write them in here.

  8. Just take regular things:

    ~clothes (e.g., shorts,t-shirts, tank tops, underwear,)

    ~sandals

    ~camera

~other odds and ends (it's up to you)
