now i have to moedify this point Jamiacans are no poor as stated by one of the answers

Point of note, 1 USD does not go a long way there as things are expensive and lot of them are poor

  4. I've been several times.  Jamaica is probably one of the most laid back places you will go.  Dress is casual.  Even places that are considered "upscale", people still dress casual.

Some of the best food is at the "dives" along the street and you can get a good meal for cheap.  Don't forget to taste Blue Mountain Coffee.

Shopping is everywhere, so be ready to bargain.

FYI.. sometimes locals will approach you and offer to help get you a cab or offer to help you in some way, if you take them up on the offer, be ready to give them some $$.  Then there are some that will ask if you want a "good smoke" and we ain't talking about cigarettes.  A simple "no" is sufficient.

Other than that, you'll have a blast!  Jamaica is my favorite place to go for the people, the food, the culture, etc.

  5. Bug spray

  6. JUST BRING YOURSELF AND YOU WILL HAVE A WONDERFUL TIME THERE

  7. Just you normal summer sutff

  8. how long are u staying?

well definately go to scotches for jerk pork

go to peir 1 and glissening water

do a sunset cruise and a daytrip into ochi for false etc.

as for what to ware... think sun sun sun... so all those thin cotton stuff lots of swim suits 1 will not do and if your white... tuns of sun screen.

Find comfi sandals... the utility types and something closed up like sneakers on the off chance it rains... bring a nice outfit for a semi form or classy casual dinner

If u cant stand sun bring a cap... bring stuff to do you hear which will always be wet and unruley :)

and light on the makeup becuase u wont be the same complextion and it will all go awry

there is a great house and a plantation where u can pick fruit... try that... cant remeber the name of it but they will know at guest services.

Go to doctors cave and margerita ville.   lots of old churches and historical sites in St james

and u can go hiking in the cockpit country if your adventurous.

do snorkel or do some water sports... glass bottom kind of thing.  Its lovely!!

    have a great time

  9. June is very warm time in Jamaica, so light clothings are best. Ritz is an excellent place and Mobay is centrally located between Ocho Rios and Negril.

Dunns River Falls in Ocho Rios is a must! Fantastic waterfalls but be sure to have a guide to climb up as they are slippery at places. From your hotel there are daily tour buses going to Ocho Rios. That's the safest means of transport.

Avoid the Dolphin's Cove as it is waste of money.

Montego Bay has a mix of city life and laid back. If you want to taste local food for cheap then you are better off making freinds with a taxi driver. Tip him well and you'll be taken care of!

Sure locals will hustle you to be your walking guide. This might intimidate you. If uncomfortable, avoid venturing on your own.

Nightlife Margaritville is good and in a safe area of Montego Bay.

Negril does not have a lot of attraction excepting the beach and Rick's Cafe is ok.

Keep a lot of single dollar bills in your pockets and do not show them all at one time. Keep the tips ready!

In local foods, you MUST try these:

    1) Beef or chicken patty

    2) Ackee and Saltfish

    3) boiled banana and yam

    4) Jerk chicken

    5) Local steamed fish (my favorite parrot fish)

    6)Red stripe

    7) Manish water!

Sunday breakfasts are taken seriously, find a restaurent on the beach and you are in heaven!!

Point of note, 1 USD does not go a long way there as things are expensive and lot of them are poor. Do not be stingy to offer a generous tip for good service. Avoid giving coins as they might be offended.

    Enjoy mon!!

  10. Bring some very lightweight clothes, very hot there. Beautiful, beautiful place though. Be sure to bring Bob Marley music too, it'll feel unbelievable.
