What should I budget for 2 weeks in the UK/Ireland?

Details: I will be flying from NYC or Boston to London, UK in May 2009. I expect to spend 2-3 days in London before moving on to Scotland (Glasgow then Highlands) for 4-5 days, and then on to Ireland (Dublin and Galway) for another 4-5 days.

I plan to stay in hostels, and need to budget some money for eating out/going to pubs.

Thanks!

  1. Travel costs come down to 3 things for the most part:

air fare ($600-$800, East Coast to Britain, rough estimate)

hotels (Make estimate for hostel cost, multiply by 14)

everything else - meals, sightseeing, local transport -

anywhere from $30/day (very frugal) on up.  Midrange is probably $50-60/day.

In the case of this trip, you'll also need to figure the

Britain-Ireland travel cost, and you perhaps the London-Scotland trip as well.

Overall, after airfare, $700-1400 for accommodations,

and about the same for incidentals (which aren't so

    incidental).  So, $1500-3000 plus airfare.

It's a wide range, but depends on what your tastes and

requirements are.  That's a good starting point -

you can research specific hostels, trains, etc, since

    you have plenty of time.
