What should I buy, an Altima or a Sonata?

Getting ready to buy a car and I have narrowed it down to a 2006 Sonata with a 6 cylinder engine and about 57K miles on it or a 2005 Altima with a 4 cylinder engine and about 42K miles on it. Both are in the 12,500 price range. Just looking for some suggestions.

  1. Altima! for sure

  2. A CADILLAC STS.

  3. I'd probably go with the Altima - the smaller engine probably equates to less fuel costs. If it sways you in anyway, the Altima is also made in the USA while the Sonata is made in Korea (although to me that doesn't really make much of a difference).

  4. of course the altima.

The 2006 Sonata was the first year of the body style change, meaning there were probably alot of defects.

The Nissan Altima is a better brand in reliability, and it's more stylish and has better resale value.

  5. Its a no brainer!!!! ALTIMA!....RULES!!

  6. of the two I would buy the altima. better manufacturer

  7. The Altima definitely will be less powerful than the Sonata. The Sonata will be fun to drive and good all round, but may be less interesting of a car to show your friends.

The Sonata is a year younger than the Altima, another reason to buy it. But an important factor is safety, and I think that the Sonata is actually safer. It got an acceptable rating in the IIHS side crash test, but a good rating in the frontal offset crash.

If the Altima has side airbags, then it is still in the running. It got a good rating in the front crash, but without side airbags got a poor rating. So take safety into consideration, and BE SURE IT HAS ESC (electronic stability control). If ESC was fitted onto every car on the road, it could save over 5000 lives a year.

  8. Altima.
