Question:

What should I change my surname to?

After living with a horrible surname behind my reasonable first names for 16 years, my parents have finally allowed me to change it as they've realised it's killing my confidence & self-esteem. The problem is, I have no idea what to change it to. I know that I don't want anything that's ethically what I'm not(I'm your average white Brit), or anything too outrageous or twee, but haven't a clue where to start. My first name is Helen, middle name Rose, but I get called Nel most of the time, so it has to sound good with all those.

Any help is much appreciated :)

Thanks!

  1. How about a surname that means new beginning?

I think Helen Rose Renelle is beautiful.

    There is also:

    Renate

    Renata

    Stasy

    Aurore

    Rene

  2. I like the surname Snow or Winter they are very nice!

  3. You definitely want something people can spell with a first letter that is easy to understand so you don't soend half your phone conversations spelling and respelling your name.  In retrospect I might have changed mine had I known.!  My thought would be Weston.

    Helen Rose Weston

    Nell Weston

Simple to spell but not smith or jones!

  4. Ummmm unless your last name is something really rude like Helen Rose Arsemuncher, that's really quite sad that it is giving you low self-esteem. Maybe the problem isn't your name...it's your lack of self worth.

  5. Do something great in life, when people start calling you by that name you hate so much now with admiration , you will be proud of it. watch the "namesake"

My mom has a funny first name- she was always embarrassed of it, then when she became the best student in her school, and got many awards and scholarships, every time that name was announced she would only feel contentment and pride.
