  1. Well, I am partial to unicorns. However, if you go with something simple like butterflys or flowers you will have an easier time keeping the theme and updating with new pieces as your child gets older.

Alyssa's theme is sheep and it is impossible to find much stuff in a sheep print for the bedroom. :(

  2. Most mommy's agree that you'll figure this out the month or so before you're due so don't stress.  I've employed a generic approach to decorating my kids room so that there's not a lot of pink or navy.  My oldest, now 11, has vague recollections of her room so whatever you pick, it's really for you!

My honest to goodness suggestion is to go to the book store and look at the books for little kids (board books have a wealth of creative ideas).  You're probably going to read one of those books (maybe more) 75 to 900 million times in your lifetime.  Find the one that you like the most and make that theme happen.  I.e., if you like "Brown Bear, Brown Bear," get a projector and trace the shapes onto the wall, maybe hire a college student who can paint it in (which you can do but may not want to if it makes you dizzy), throw in some snazzy borders, maybe some book rails and you're done.  Furniture for this could either be white or dark, depending upon your light and flooring.

With my first two (both girls), we did Winnie the Pooh and Noah's ark where I used the whole theme and applied it to the room.  While it was cute, it looked like 99 million other little kid rooms (boy and girl).

For my last, I went berserk and did "Where the Wild Things Are" where I had murals painted on all four walls (to look like the page when "the walls hung with vines from the world all around") I bought a bunch of crib sheets, twin sheets, and an army blanket.  Found some funky lamps (they had monkeys on them) and made my own lamp shades using pictures from the book (particularly the ones when they are howling at the moon and hanging from the trees).  Total cost for this was $400 (painting took up most of the cost at $300).  Again, I went a little crazy but I also knew that this was going to be my last kid - better go out with a bang!

There are some beautiful wall murals out there that aren't specific to kids, like the Lady with the Unicorn (very cool, very elegant but I couldn't find the mural, it is out there!) as well as other fun murals like a fairy scene, pirate ship, beach scene and so on. (They apply like wall paper.)

Again, find a specific theme or find a good kid book.  Some of my kid's favorite books (that I've read 875 million times) are "Brown Bear, Brown Bear," "Goodnight Moon," "Sheep in a Jeep," "Tikki Tikki Tembo," and "Little House in the Big Woods."

  3. What about a garden/outdoor theme? You could have flowers, butterflies and include some ladybirds. The walls could be green or autumn colours or anything really.

  4. Ducks

  5. Butterflies are beautiful! I think they have about 400 different butterfly themed sets available for babies. Just a thought...and probably not one that is alone as many people think butterflies are awesome...lol. Ladybugs are cute too! Maybe a general bug theme?

  6. butterflies

    fairies

    rainbows

  7. Stars and the moon! in light yellow and green. Very cute.  Or you can be really girly and do butterflies and flowers with the pinks and purples.

  8. If I have a girl I am doing pale green walls, with pink, purple and yellow accents and fairy accessories and will probably do a fairy mural of some kind on a wall.

  9. I like Peter Rabbit, it's classic and cute

  10. I always wanted to paint the nursery like this:  top half of the wall blue (sky) and the bottom half green (grass), then put a picket fence along the wall (with the green behind it).  Then I wanted to put flowers along the fence (fake ones that can be removed later) so the room looks cheerful and bright.  I was going to paint clouds on the blue too.

I ended up painting the lower part of the wall a pink-purple color with a thick tinkerbell boarder around the room (seperating the white and pink).  It looks really cute and was easier than the idea above.

On a commercial, I have seen light purple walls with 3D butterfly's on the walls.  It is so pretty that if I have another girl, I plan to do it.

  11. princess

    strawberry shortcake

    valerina

    flowers

    butterfly

go to ur local babies rus store and look at the bedding sets and find the one u love and go from there = )

  12. yeah i like the ladybug theme too. try butterflies. or flowers. bumblebees. polka dots...hope this helps!

  13. ~Noah's Ark & all the animals

    ~Safari

    ~Pink with brown polka dots

    ~Butterflies

    ~Princess

    ~Circus

Those are ones I could think of, but I would go to the site I listed, they have ALOT of themes and some very cute accessories to go with them too........    :)   Hope that helps!!!!!    :)

  14. I would do something that is cute and fun and stimulates her senses- bright colors with lots of texture, etc. I would try to avoid a particular theme (winnie the pooh, nemo, etc.) so that you can easily transition her into a toddler room and eventually a school ager. Cribs are often convertible so if you choose a theme that can be easily altered over time you could save yourself a lot of money!

  15. i think the cutest would be hello kitty.  congrats on the new addition.

  16. I did a hawaiian theme with girly surf stuff.  It was really cute.  I also did the more permanent stuff like paint and borders unisex and brought in girl items just in case she was a he.

I also like butterflies or a flower/garden theme.

  17. My father had my room painted pink and pictures were hanging on the wall, like poems and stuff.  If I had a daughter I would probably have a lilac or light purple walls and put some pink and yellow butterflies around. I would put up a picture above her head of Ireland and I would write on the bottom, "Ireland's Little Princess". My other choice was a pale blue wall with poems and pictures of Ireland hanging up. I know blue is for boys but I think a pale blue will be cool.

  18. how about a fantasy garden theme then you can integrate not only lady bugs but fairies, animals, flowers, mushrooms, lakes, mountains etc... The possibilities are endless here.

  19. Do lady bugs in a different color! I saw some REALLY cute lady bug themes in pink and brown for baby girls (rather than the usual red and black) .. it's so cute!! =]

here's what one of the themes looks like

    http://www.babytoytown.com/images/produc...

  20. Rainbows, unicorns, clouds, all things girls like!

  21. You can do ladybugs.  Just do them differently.  Here's a link to a pretty ladybug set but it's not the usual kind of just red, black and white, check it out.  Don't give up on doing ladybugs, search online or on ebay and see if you can do it differently than your friend.

    http://www.babysupermall.com  , it's the Ladybug Lullabye item #cci6517096.

    Good luck and Congratulations!!!

  22. flowers or polka dots are in... in pastel colors would be best. I'm not saying use a ton of flowers or dots.... just use it as a basic idea and go from there. Another idea is to do some kind of outdoor-ish theme with flowers and grass and clouds, birds, trees, etc on the walls... If none of those sound good, look for ideas in catalogs or something like martha stuart, ikea, or pottery barn would have ideas.
