I have decided that I am definitely going to do English Literature, French and Spanish

I need two more to fill the gaps

Any opinions?

I am drawn to more humanities based subjects but I want to keep my options open as I have not decided on a career yet

My other options are: Modern History, Law, Philosophy and Sociology

Thank you

  1. hey your options are very like mine i'm doing english literature, french, history and governement and politics. if i was you i would either do history or philosophy, as some universities have funny views on sociology and as for law there is no need to take it unless you want to be a lawyer and even then universities don't expect you to have an a level in it.

hope this helped and good luck next year.

  2. I would go for history, given that list. It's a valuable subject, and fits in well with your others.

However, I would strongly recommend you take at least one science type subject, such as geography, maths or another of the classic sciences. It shows you're a more balanced individual, aside from keeping your brain active in more ways.

And btw, it's not necessary to take five at AS. It's generally preferred that you have four solid As.

    Hope that helps.

  3. I took English Literature, History and Sociology for A level 3 years ago along with Product Design. It was so nice to have a subject that didnt involve essay writing. The subjects you have chosen at the minute are very intense.

Personally I would recommend taking a subject such as Product Design, Technology, Drama, Art or PE.

I loved doing Product Design as it was a good break away from essays. I still had a lot of written work and I had to do a 3 hr exam for it but it was something different.

If you havent decided on a career choice yet then it might be wise to take a more vocational subject too. I took it as it showed that I had good evaluating and communication skills. It demonstarted that I was good at pratical things as well as written work and that I had a creative streak.

Most improtantly though, choose subjects that you really enjoy. it doesnt matter if you are good at them. u won't be inspired and at Alevel you need to take the initiative to do work by yourself without a teacher chasing you. If you dont like the subject then you will be less likely to do the work.

    Hope this advice helps.
