I want to someday buy a horse trailer, as well as own draft horses. As everyone knows draft horses are larger. . . so what size trailler should I look for and keep in mind for the size trailer sections? Is there away to get a custom made trailer for larger horses?

  1. Well See a trailer making man.

  2. I'm sure you could find someone to custom-build a trailer for you, if you are willing to spend the money.  In the meantime, I'd look closely at a Brenderup trailer.  They are designed and used primarily in Europe, where a lot of folks have big, tall Thoroughbreds, so the Brenderups are oversized by US standards. They are also built to last. You can find more at brenderup.com

  3. I would get draft size, or warmblood size. It might cost a little more but you can't really fit a draft in a regular size trailor so yeah.

    (my friend has drafts)

  4. My trainer has a 1/2 Belgian that she trasports in a a Featherlite livestock trailer. It is thoroughbred height (they make the roof a little taller than normal) but other than that it is just a generic trailer.

Im pretty sure this is the one she has: http://www.fthr.com/trailers/platform_te...

  5. i wouldnt use a trailer for a larger horse as it might not hold there weight? plus like u say you'd need it custom made which would cost more money so i would say the best thing is to buy a horse box, there bigger, can hold more weight and are safer than trailers as trailers can flip easierly!so the extra money u'd need to spend to customize a trailer u could probably buy a box for near enough the same money. goodluck!

  6. I think they sell trailers for draft horses, I don't really know sizes or anything though

  7. Any draft horses I ever hauled (which was awhile ago) went in stock trailers.  The probably make "regular" trailers for them, but I bet you'd end up paying more because it's not so common.

  8. The ones I've seen hauled were always in large open stock trailers, but I don't know sizes either...just BIG.
