I am planning a housewarming party and I'm inviting a lot of people to it like family and a few friends. I dont have a grill yet because I just moved in so I dont know what I should make for the dinner. I was thinking like cook hot dogs in the microwave or something and just do that...I want something that wont take long to make for a bunch of people but something good that isnt like little kids food if that makes sense. Any suggestions would be awesome! Thanks

  1. Go to you local store or Wal-Mart and get a meat and cheese tray, veggie tray, fruits, crackers, drip, chips, and different types of 2 liters of soft drinks like Pepsi, Dt. Pepsi, Mt. Dew, etc..  You Never want to do anything in a microwave for a housewarming party,. **** Luck on your party and have fun.

  2. Yeah, I would get food trays like wings, fruits, vegetables. Don't do that stuff in the microwave.

  3. First off, congrats on your new home.  An easy recipe to make is an enchilada hotdish.  Brown hamburger.  (How much depends on how many are coming and how big of eaters they are.)  Drain and add 1 TBL. chili powder for each pound of hamburger - I use more cuz my family like things spicy; my friend uses less for her family .  Add minced onions to taste, plus salsa and nacho cheese soup - one small bottle/can each per pound of hamburger.  You may also add refried beans to the hamburger mixture, if you like them and/or if you want it to go further.  Spray a roaster with Pam, line it with soft shell tortillas.   Add enough of the hamburger mixture on top to cover lightly.  Continue to layer the tortillas and hamburger mixture until gone - I have made a big roaster with 4 layers for a big gathering we had.  Cover the top with a grated cheese - I use sharp cheddar.  Bake at 350* for an hour.  Serve with sour cream, shredded lettuce, black olives, chopped onions, chopped tomatoes, etc..  It's so quick and so good.  Hope you have a great party!

  4. **** IT!!!!!

  5. Chips (with any sort of dip if necessary),chicken, and salad.

Here are just some recipes just in case:

    FRIED CHICKEN

    Prep Time: 20 minutes

    Cook Time: 20 minutes

    Yield: 3 to 4 servings

    1 broiler/fryer chicken, cut into 8 pieces

    2 cups low fat buttermilk

    2 tablespoons kosher salt

    2 tablespoons Hungarian paprika

    2 teaspoons garlic powder

    1 teaspoon cayenne pepper

    Flour, for dredging

    Vegetable shortening, for frying

Place chicken pieces into a plastic container and cover with buttermilk. Cover and refrigerate for 12 to 24 hours.

Melt enough shortening (over low heat) to come just 1/8-inch up the side of a 12-inch cast iron skillet or heavy fry pan. Once shortening liquefies raise heat to 325 degrees F. Do not allow oil to go over 325 degrees F.

Drain chicken in a colander. Combine salt, paprika, garlic powder, and cayenne pepper. Liberally season chicken with this mixture. Dredge chicken in flour and shake off excess.

Place chicken skin side down into the pan. Put thighs in the center, and breast and legs around the edge of the pan. The oil should come half way up the pan. Cook chicken until golden brown on each side, approximately 10 to 12 minutes per side. More importantly, the internal temperature should be right around 180 degrees. (Be careful to monitor shortening temperature every few minutes.)

Drain chicken on a rack over a sheet pan. Don't drain by setting chicken directly on paper towels or brown paper bags. If you need to hold the chicken before serving, cover loosely with foil but avoid holding in a warm oven, especially if it's a gas oven.

    GRILLED SHRIMP WITH GARLIC MAYO

    Difficulty: Easy

    Prep Time: 15 minutes

    Cook Time: 5 minutes

    Yield: 4 servings

    12 medium shrimp, frozen defrosted

Bamboo skewers, soaked in water for at least 30 minutes

1/4 cup plus 1 tablespoon roasted garlic salad dressing, divided

    Salt and pepper

    1/3 cup mayonnaise

    1 teaspoon minced garlic

    1 teaspoon paprika

    Preheat grill to medium.

Pat shrimp dry with paper towels, and place on bamboo skewers.

    PORTOBELLO MUSHROOM SALAD

    Difficulty: Easy

    Prep Time: 10 minutes

    Yield: 4 servings

4 portobello mushroom caps, wiped clean and very thinly sliced

4 ribs celery and their green tops, thinly sliced on an angle

Handful flat-leaf parsley, picked of stems but left whole

1 lemon (Heads up: you'll need lemon zest for the pesto later, so zest and reserve before you cut this lemon to juice it for this salad.)

3 tablespoons extra-virgin olive oil, eyeball it

    Coarse salt and black pepper

A couple of handfuls shaved Parmiginao-Reggiano

Arrange the mushrooms and celery on a platter and scatter the parsley leaves around. Squeeze the lemon juice evenly over the platter then liberally drizzle the salad with extra-virgin olive oil, about 3 tablespoons. Season the salad with salt and lots of black pepper and toss with your finger tips to combine. Using a vegetable peeler, shave cheese and scatter a couple of handfuls Parmigiano-Reggiano over the salad.

Also you can cook pasta in a microwave:

Cook some pasta the and allow it to get cold.

then, add some chopped apple, some red onion, a small tin of pineapple chunks, a little sweetcorn and a finely chopped carrot. Add some mayonnaise and mix together.

just before serving, bake a little garlic bread and serve on a mixed leaf salad base.

Extremely cheap and very very filling.

Washes down nicely with a glass of cold crisp white wine.

This is a family fav had at a lot of my family events! Hope this helps!

  9. i wouldn't do hot dogs in the microwave, yuck.

usually for a housewarming party, you would have snacks and finger foods. make cheese dip with chips, veggies and ranch, fruit, small sandwiches, desserts, stuff like that.

    congrats on you house

  10. do you mean you dont have a stove? , I was going to say make chili but thats out, unless you have a slow cooker. make subs or buy a sub platter, thats easy I agree dogs in the mic., for a party is a no no. perhaps some salad a fruit tray & a veggie tray like the others said. you dont need to cook bean salad, I made a southwestern black bean salad that was popular, no cooking.

  11. Hot dogs in microwave is not good. YUCK!! Best to have is veggie trays, deli meat/cheese tray, or if you have a crock-pot, make simple and easy sweet n sour meatballs by using 1 bottle of chili sauce, 1 can of cranberry jelly (no chucks), 1-2 lbs of meatball, combine sauce and jelly til smooth, pour into crock-pot, add in meatballs, low cook for few hours before guest arrive, and VIOLA!

Or you can make velveta cheese, can of chili or salsa, melt in microwave and mix well. Use chips to dip.

  12. well, I would make a big salad with grilled chicken. Maybe some Bruschetta for appetizers, and possibly a great casserole that you have spoofed up to seem like an expensive bake. Like baked pasta dish. OOOOrrr just take angel hair~~olive oil med. heat, add garlic-a lot (if two people eat it they can't tell) add halved cherry tomatoes, some great prawns (huge three bite or just regular but dont do the baby shrimp, they don't taste the same in this dish) and some red chili flakes. It is a keeper. Toss in the angel hair and throw in a nice bowl you got. That isn't kiddy but i like it and I'm thirteen.

    Hope I helped
