I've been unemployed for 14 months now and every job interview I attend tells me that I'm overqualified. I just want to work and I can't even get a job in a meat packing company. I don't need to go back to education as I have recently completed a college course and am well educated. Constructive advice and suggestions please!

  1. lie their not going to check up on you

  2. Don't put all your qualification down on applications .Take any Post you can then you will have experience for further interviews. And can show work experience.Good luck

  3. Try temping as a way in.  Btw, I used to have this problem, after 3 years moved to another city with my family and got a job within a week.

  4. Take a look at this website...http://www.StartCashGiftingNow.com. It's an incredible opportunity that might help. Best of luck.

  5. This is a fairly common problem for managers who have worked in fairly specialised fields. There are few openings in their original fields so they cannot get a management job and people will not hire them for non management jobs as they are over qualified and used to giving orders not taking them. it is a catch 22 situation and all the while the ex-manager may be having to pay a mortgage etc etc.

This happened to me 20 years ago and i was out of work for 3 years! This then brought in the 'out of the work habit' stumbling block. I was, and am, an honest man so i did not join the 'Black Economy' and ended up over 15 grand in debt. I realised that the situation was going to get worse and switched from looking for a permanent job to looking for temporary ones on the basis that if someone only wanted a spare set of hands for 3 or 4 months they would not be worried about the over qualified bit.

Within a couple of weeks I got a 4mth short term contract job, which actually ended up lasting nearly 6 months. Promptly got another one after that on a maternity cover basis. The person i was covering decided not to come back and i was offered the position. I accepted, gave it 6 months and then started looking for permanent jobs at my old level and after a few months found one.

  6. well that was obvious from the words overqualified. if you want a job so badly get one in retail.

  7. Don't give up!! Keep applying and keep looking!! Keep your resume posted online, if the job is meant to be yours it will be!!!

Hope this helps! Best of luck :)

  8. When interviewing or applying - you don't have to tell them all of your qualifications, only those that qualify you for the job.  Omission of fact is not lying.

If the job requires a HS diploma, don't tell them you have a Masters Degree.

  9. I can definetely relate to your situation, I temped 8 months while looking for a job after having 2 college degrees with A averages. Have you checked with the local unemployment office?  They should have a website that you can check daily.  Also look for temp agencies in the area, with a degree they should find you something quickly.  While temping keep looking on your own even if they tell you temp to hire. Alot of companies dont want to pay the fees associated with hiring temps on full times.  Just don't give up, keep at it and you will find something.  Good Luck!!
