What should I do about a 401k?

Just the other day I was going through old paperwork and found that I had a 401k for Easy Spirit (owned by Jones Group NY) shoes back in 1997-2000. I never collected it. All three stores I worked for closed down. Do I still get this money?

  1. You should contact the company that was in charge of the management of this program.  They should be on the statement.

Otherwise, you'll need to try and track down where your funds are through Jones Group NY.

When a company files for bankruptcy, your 401k funds are protected.  They might have mailed them to you years ago, and if you moved then it's monies sitting in limbo.

    Good luck
