Question:

What should I do about a blood spot on my eye?

I was trying to take a contact out yesterday and I think I poked my eye too hard. It doesn't hurt or anything, it's just an unsightly red spot. Is it anything I should be concerned about, or anything I should do for it?

  1. You may have a subconjunctival hemorrhage.  It may be almost gone in five days or so.  It's just a drop of blood under the transparent covering of the sclera.

There is no treatment for it.

  2. It is a subconjunctive hemorrhage. No treatment needed. It will take a while to absorb but other then that you will be fine.

  3. From your description, it sounds like a sunconjunctival hemorrhage...which looks and sounds scarier then it actually is.  It's actually nothing to worry about.  It may start looking worse before it gets better.  You can use cold compresses to soothe the eye if it is irritated.

If you are having any other symptoms besides the redness, then it could be something else.  The only way to know for sure is to visit your eye doctor and have him/her take a look at it.
