What should I do about my TV and this digital thing?

I have a TV from the 80's that is huge and looks and works great. I will not spend $1200 on a new flat screen. Everything is going digital soon and I don't get what I'm supose to do. I don't use an antena, but lately the commercials about the digital switch are only talking about TV's with antenas. Will this even affect me. I'd call my cable company, but I can never get through.

  1. Since you have cable, you should be OK after the digital switchover, _even if_ you have analog cable.  If you do have analog cable (i.e. without a set-top box) your cable company MAY try to tell you that you NEED to upgrade to digital.

This is NOT necessarily the case.  Most larger cable companies are mandated to continue providing analog signals over cable until at least 2012, so you should have a few more years before you need to upgrade.  However, some cable companies may decide to drop certain channels from their analog packages to make their digital packages more attractive.

You will really need to check with your cable company to see how they will be handling the switchover.  Good luck in contacting them!
